The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu, has said the N100 billion earmarked for the conduct of the 2023 general elections in next year’s budget estimates is grossly inadequate. Yakubu stated this on Friday when he appeared before the Senate Committee on INEC to defend the commission’s 2022 budget estimates.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDRA) on Friday disclosed that there is no imminent plan by the Federal Government to raise the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, (petrol). Many persons were feared dead in a fire outbreak that occurred at Kubwa Village market in Abuja yesterday evening. The fire outbreak was reportedly caused by an explosion from a phone used by a Kerosene seller.

Barely 24 hours to the Anambra State governorship election, the Inspector General of Police yesterday, removed the Deputy Inspector General, DIG Joseph Egbunike as the head of the team for the election. Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba confirmed that DIG Egbunike has stepped down. No reason was given for the removal of the experienced senior officer who is an indigene of Anambra State.

INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, yesterday, told staff of the commission that attention will be on the electoral body during the governorship election in Anambra State. In a message to INEC staff on the eve of the election, Yakubu said after several months of preparations, the election will hold despite the challenging situation in the build-up to the exercise.

A police officer simply identified as Sergeant Akpoboloukeme, has allegedly stabbed his colleague identified as Sgt Sapele Eyerindideke, to death in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred on Thursday evening at Edepie axis of Yenagoa.

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano yesterday accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of plotting to rig the governorship election holding today. Speaking through Don Adinuba, the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Obiano accused the APC of writing results for 10 local government areas ahead of the poll.

Operatives of Ondo State security outfit, Amotekun have arrested 18 suspects with dangerous weapons concealed in bags of tiger nuts and under the seats of three buses. Parading the suspects in Akure, the State Commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed that two of the three buses, which stormed the state escaped.
